Lorna was downtown shopping for
the gloves she had been saving for. Ivy’s wasn’t crowded at the time, no more than
a dozen other shoppers, most paired with a clerk. Lorna found her gloves and then
six sundry items that went casually into her carry-all. She paid for the
gloves, chatted briefly with Mrs Webb and then left the store headed for her Bible
study at the Baptist church and wondering what in the world she was going to
cook Bud for dinner.
