The professor, distraught over his lost pen, retraced his steps from the classroom for a third time. His grandfather’s Montblanc fountain pen, perhaps his most treasured possession and one he’d been using for half his life was gone in the space of a hundred steps. On Monday, a student knocked on his office door, shyly holding out a hand in which rested the Montblanc pen. “It was in the classroom, Dr. Harben.” Dr. Harben gave one A grade that term.
